The ambulatory cardiac monitoring industry uses tens of thousands disposable AA or AAA batteries each year to power their devices. At a time when companies in our industry are filling landfills with batteries, lead wires and antiquated or broken devices, we took a radically different approach.
iRhythm built the Zio™ family of devices from the ground up with the environment in mind. iRhythm recycles 100% of each device returned to us. No part of the device will end up in a landfill.
And as with everything about the Zio™ family of devices, iRhythm has made recycling easy for the patient. The patient simply puts their used Zio™ device in the postage paid envelope provided with their device and drops it in the mail. iRhythm does the rest!
Below are a few examples of what the recycled Zio™ devices may be used for:
Plastic Case
The plastic case will be recycled into park benches, trash containers, non-critical plastic uses, drums and parking blocks, to name a few.
PCB Board
The metals from the board and components are recovered. The list of metals includes gold, copper, silver and iron. The plastic and fiber of the PCB Board can be used for coasters, drums, golf clubs, and packaging fillers among other commercial uses.
Cables
The metals from the cable are recovered, while the plastic and PVC is recycled for reuse in the plastic industry.
