The Zio™ Event Card is a prescription-only, single-use, disposable, looping ECG monitor that can be worn for up to 30 days. It is indicated for use on patients who experience transient symptoms such as syncope, palpitations, shortness of breath, or dizziness.
The Zio™ Event Card records the ECG during normal daily activities, including sleep. It continually scans the heart for ECG activity, but only keeps the data when patients indicate they have a symptom. When experiencing symptoms, patients press the event button and the device stores the previous 45 seconds of ECG in memory plus the first 15 seconds after the button is pressed. Patients then transmit the recording by calling the iRhythm National Clinical Center (iNCC) who will instruct them on how to send the event over the phone line. The device can store up to two events at a time.
With the profile of a credit card and weighing less than 2 oz, the Zio™ Event Card is intended to be comfortable to wear and inconspicuous under clothing. Its innovative design allows the patient to wear the monitor via a neck lanyard, belt clip or Z-tape (a unique method attached directly to the body). This versatility helps to improve patient comfort with the end goal of increasing overall patient compliance.
When the monitoring period is completed, the patient mails back the device in a pre-paid envelope. iRhythm recycles 100% of the device. Nothing ends up in a landfill.
